The landscape – an inexhaustible source of energy dating back centuries. Café Wildau lies amid one of Europe’s largest contiguous forest regions – the UNESCO biosphere reserve Schorfheide-Chorin. Featuring forests, meadows, lakes, rivers and moors, this nature reserve emerged following the last Ice Age around 15,000 years ago. Water from the melting glaciers created more than 230 lakes in the region, of which Lake Werbellin is one of the deepest (up to 60 metres in places).
The Schorfheide is home to an unparalleled abundance of fauna and flora, including countless animal and plant species that have become rare or even threatened by extinction. Situated far away from the towns and mass tourism, this special landscape has retained its original charm to this day. On arrival, you are instantly struck by the beauty of the surroundings, in which woodlands and meadows are intersected by water. A well-organised network of paths invites you to immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature.
Hunting in the Schorfheide
Café Wildau lies amid one of the largest hunting regions in the Schorfheide. In over 800 years of hunting history, the legendary Schorfheide and its wildlife stocks have been the subject of countless tales.
As part of the UNESCO biosphere reserve Schorfheide-Chorin, which incorporates a total area of 1,291 km², the Schorfheide covers an area of 64,580 hectares, making it one of Germany’s largest cohesive woodland areas.
It is not only hunters who are attracted to the large populations of fallow deer, red deer and wild boar. Guided tours with the forest ranger through the Schorfheide woodlands are a marvellous experience for both adults and children. We will be pleased to put you in touch with the organisations responsible for the hunting grounds in the surrounding area. Please contact us for further information.
All our rooms have their own gun cabinets in which up to two guns can be stored safely while you enjoy some evening relaxation by the open fireplace in our Hunting Room. Our sauna is an ideal place to wind down after a long day in the woods.
Sporting activities
Cycling and hiking
Experience the diverse scenery of the Schorfheide by cycling along the woodland paths, forestry tracks and purpose-built cycle paths that cut through dense forests, passing countless lakes and traversing the undulating landscape shaped by the Ice Age. Cycle and hiking maps are also available from our hotel.
Water sports & boat hire
For boating enthusiasts with or without a licence to captain a boat, there are endless opportunities for spending a delightful day on the lake. If you already have a floating vessel, you’re welcome to hook up to the power supply at our jetty.
Covered wagon rides & horse riding
According to a German saying, the greatest happiness on earth is sitting in the saddle of a horse (Das höchste Glück der Erde liegt auf dem Rücken der Pferde). Enjoy some wonderful horse-trekking expeditions through the endless Schorfheide. For all those scared off by the height of the horse’s back, we recommend a relaxing journey in one of the famous horse-drawn covered wagons. Further information is available form our reception desk.

Aqua fitness

Fishing
With a bit of luck, you’ll be able to catch pike, zander, perch, eel, carp and almost any other freshwater species in our lakes. Fishing permits can be obtained from the tourist information office (Touristeninformation) in Eichhorst.
